Thousands of non-Muslims expected to attend Muslim convention to gain better understanding of Islam
MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 9 /CNW/ - Thousands of non-Muslim guests and international delegates will join Ahmadi Muslims today at the International Center in Mississauga (Derry and Airport Road) for the final day of their three-day convention. There are expected to be over twenty thousand attendees.
The event will begin today at 10:30 a.m.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (also known as the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam), the Messianic and missionary branch of Islam, has a spiritual following of 200 million members spread over 174 countries. Its founder, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908), was the Messiah and Mahdi of Islam as prophesied by the Holy Prophet of Islam Muhammad (on him be peace) 14 centuries ago.

Today's keynote speech, titled "Reconciling Faith with Loyalty to Country" will be delivered by Mr. Naseem Mahdi, President & Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Canada. Since the arrest of 17 Canadian Muslims in June, there has been much doubt regarding the loyalty of Muslims to the country of Canada. This speech will convey Islamic teachings regarding full loyalty of a Muslim to their country of residence.

It is a common misconception amongst non-Muslims that Islam is a very traditional religion that can not survive in today's modern world. To negate this belief, Mr. Farhan Khokhar, will speak in regards to "Islam - Its Meaning to the Modern Man" at today's program.


Canadians are interested in overcoming this as well as other misconceptions about Muslims and are coming to this event to fully understand the true Islamic perspective.

This is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Canada's 30th annual convention, and every year the hope is that everyone in attendance leaves with a broader understanding of the community as well as the religion of Islam. By bringing Muslims and non-Muslims together, Ahmadi Muslims hope to contribute to a better Canada by living up their motto "Love for All, Hatred for none".
