Maple, Ontario, Canada, April 22, 2003 – His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad was elected in London England today by an Electoral College (Majlis Intikhab-e-Khilafat), which comprises of the National Leaders of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s branches in various countries and its headquarters in Rabwah, Pakistan.

This process was initiated after the death of His Holiness Mirza Tahir Ahmad, former Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on April 19, 2003 in London, UK.

The news of the election and initiation ceremony was covered live on Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA) – 24 hr global satellite station.

His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, as the Head of the Community will bear the official title of Khalifatul Masih V (Fifth successor of the Promised Messiah – peace be upon him). With the Election of the New Leader, all members of the Ahmadiyya Community will pledge allegiance to His Holiness.

His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad will take over the Spiritual leadership and administrative responsibility of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a global religious organization established in over 150 countries with millions of followers.

The Community was founded in 1889 in India by His Holiness Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (Promised Messiah and Al Mahdi, peace be upon him), who claimed to be the promised reformer as foretold by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) 1,400 years ago and as prophesied in various holy scriptures.
