Justin Trudeau Commends Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at in Address at Largest National Islamic Convention

Thousands gathered for the second day of the 39th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada at the International Centre in Mississauga. The opening session of the day – presided by the National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, Mr. Lal Khan Malik – included a special address by Justin Trudeau. Several dignitaries, politicians and diplomats also attended the second day of the three-day National Islamic Convention. 

The Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at offers practical solutions to combat various forms of religious extremism, while discussing the reconciliation of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and Islam’s compatibility with the West. 

Justin Trudeau commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at for its commitment to uphold the principles of respect, inclusion and fairness. Trudeau expressed, “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at plays a vital role in promoting the positive diversity that is at the heart of Canada’s success as a nation.” He further stated regarding the Jama`at, “In your work, in your communities and internationally, you reflect the best of Canadian values.” 

The third and final day of the Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) commences on August 30, 2015 at 10:30 AM EST at the International Centre in Mississauga.
