"O Allah in your name I die (sleep) and I become alive (wake up)" - Bukharie-kitab-ud-daawaat

We believe in god and his supreme powers, he can do anything when ever he pleases. We can not even blink an eye without his will. As in the prayer it says I die in your name, actually it is a state similar to death. We are still alive breathing, dreaming etc, and we can not control when we wake up, we are dependant on God for that. He controls the time span for our sleep, just like he controls our life spans.

We are lucky that we know somebody is there to take care of our selves all the time and every where even we are sleeping. And he (God) taught us to pray for help, so that we can feel our selves more close to him. Therefore we entrust our selves to God before we retire for sleep. And that is what this prayer is teaching us. For some people there sleep is so deep and sound, they walk during sleep perform several acts, and they do not realize. Some incidents happened that people slept and they died during their sleep, and never woke up. We say this prayer to hand over our selves to God before sleep to keep us sound and safe.

Questions:
  • Who controls us when we are sleeping?
  • How many God, do we believe in.
  • Who has the supreme powers?
  • Do we die when we sleep?
  • Who wakes us up from our sleep?
  • Who should we pray before we sleep to keep us safe?

“All praise belongs to Allah who brought us back to life (woke us up) after causing us to die (to go to sleep) and to him we return”

Have you ever wondered why we have been taught this prayer what it means and what are the reasons? Sleep is very important for our health. After a whole day of work people are tired so they need to rest to restore their energy, and then we are ready to face another day.

We should thank god for putting us to sleep. Waking up is a sign of life and sleep is death. When one is asleep they are not aware of what is happening around them and when we wake up fresh and pray to god thanking him god is also pleased that this person is thankful to me.

“A word of goodness is an act of charity”

The word sadqa or charity has a vast range of meanings. One can give charity by giving their time, or also by giving money to help someone financially, because that was an example set by the Holy prophet S.A.W. But a word of goodness is a very good way of giving sadqa as well, a word of goodness, even a smile can make a big difference. Our religion is a very simple and beautiful religion.

God loves every good deed done by us regardless of how big or small, and ofcourse rewards us for it. A word of wisdom can change the way one lives their life. Ones who share their wisdom receive an equal as the one who acts upon it, because it is as if they were the ones who did the good deeds themselves.

Once there was a lady who had a husband who used to argue a lot, not one day would pass by that there wasn’t an argument and she would always fight back and explain herself but she soon grew weary of it. One day an elder was passing by he was a very holy man, well he saw her crying and asked why she was crying. The woman quickly launched into her explanation as she was telling her story the man did some quick thinking and when she was done he told her not to worry he had just the cure.
He told that when ever her husband starts argue take some of this water and keep it in your mouth only spit it out when he is finished. The woman was very thankful to the old man. The next time her husband started arguing she did just as the old man told her to. The woman had water in her mouth so naturally she couldn’t talk back, when this happened the husband was quite surprised and eventually gave up arguing with her.

Sometimes though one can do wrong because of their ignorance, but if they are taught from right or wrong they will know better. One doesn’t always need a word of wisdom to give sadqa even a word of sympathy can make a big difference. This on time the Holy prophet S.A.W was going somewhere noticed this woman crying uncontrollably and stopped to ask her what was wrong and found out that she was crying for her child that had just passed away.

The prophet feeling sorry for her started sympathizing her and said that she should have patience. Upon hearing that she snapped back and said that if he had children of his own he would know how she felt. The Holy prophet remained quiet and left, the woman was still fuming when someone came told her that this is the Holy prophet S.A.W who had buried four of his own children with his own hands and didn’t complain once about gods will. Then she realized how wrong she had been and reconsidered is advice.
