Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary Hosted by City of
Ottawa

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at held a special celebratory event to commemorate its 50 Year Anniversary in Canada. The Community has become a leading contributor to Canadian society through its various social, humanitarian and peacekeeping initiatives. The event was hosted by the Ottawa Mayor, Hon. Jim Watson, who praised the contributions of the community over the past 50 years. “The activities of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at speak volumes regarding your philosophy of reaching out to the wider community to better explain the religion of Islam. You showcase your commitment to peaceful society through your charity runs, food drives, and other humanitarian efforts.” said Mayor Watson

Hon. Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, remarked: “Thank you for bringing people of various faiths, cultures and languages together to have an important conversation about interfaith dialogue and religion. These initiatives by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada contribute to building our multicultural society.”

Hon. Andrew Lesie, Retired General Chief Whip and Member of Parliament, stated: Ahmadi Muslims are graceful, gentle, inclusive, focused on activism, and for that I would like to sincerely thank you.”

A special message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also read out by General Leslie. The Prime Minister conveyed his sentiments: “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at is known for its motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and its devotion to universal brotherhood. This milestone offers a special opportunity to showcase the teachings of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at to Canada. On behalf of the Government of Canada I pray for its future success.”

Charles Bordelau, Ottawa Chief of Police, mentioned: “We appreciate the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at. We need to come together to educate ourselves and build understanding and it’s reassuring that your community shares this belief. We congratulate you in celebrating your 50th anniversary and for living by your motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None.’”

Mr. Lal Khan Malik, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada, also provided his sentiments: “Ottawa is the heart of this great country and we are fortunate to have great friends of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at in Ottawa.” He went on to say, “We are equally proud and pleased to share our friendship with so many others who have come to join us on this auspicious event to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at in Canada.”
