National Canadian Muslim Community Responds to Multiple Brown/Blackface Pictures of Justin Trudeau

Like many Canadians and people around the world, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada learned of the brown/blackface pictures of Justin Trudeau.

Following media reports of the pictures of Justin Trudeau, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at were concerned. However, we are appreciative of the acceptance, acknowledgment and apology by Justin Trudeau. As per the teachings of Islam, which emphasizes the significance of forgiveness, we have accepted his sincere apology and forgive him.

“We have known Justin Trudeau as he has occupied the seat of the highest office in the country and well before becoming the Prime Minister,” said Asif Khan, Director of Public Relations with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada. “In all of our meetings, interactions and joint initiatives, we have found him to be genuinely inclusive, open-minded and appreciative of various faiths, cultures and ethnicities. We hope that Justin Trudeau takes time to reflect on his past error in judgment and uses this experience to work toward creating a more inclusive, just and harmonious society.”

Canada is a model country and society on the world stage. We pray that Canada will continues to display the highest standards of morality, integrity and justice.

Founded in 1889, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spans over 200 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace.
