The Caliph Addresses Tens of Thousands at Canada’s Largest and Longest-running Muslim Convention
The World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, the Caliph, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad delivers historic Friday Sermon
Tens of thousands from around the world gathered for the first day of the 40th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada. The three-day event – held at the International Centre in Mississauga – commenced with a flag hoisting ceremony led by the Caliph, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
His Holiness delivered a momentous Friday Sermon to a congregation of more than 24,000, and to millions more worldwide through the community’s global satellite TV network – Muslim Television Ahmadiyya.
A special press meeting with His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad was held following the Friday Sermon. Members of the media asked the Caliph various questions regarding issues such as the deteriorating state of the Muslim world and the rise of extremism. His Holiness also expounded on the true teachings of Islam and criticized the actions of extremist Muslim clerics.
The final session of the day included a special address by the Premier of Ontario, Hon. Kathleen Wynne, in which she commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at for its ongoing contributions to Canada. Most notably, the Premier praised the community’s efforts to help with the integration of Syrian refugees into Canadian society.
The convention continues through Saturday, October 8 and concludes on Sunday, October 9.
